J.C. Bradfield (jcb@dcs.ed.ac.uk) has written a fully functional driver which converts PPM files ("ppmtomd"). He started hacking ghostscript, but abandoned it.
The "md2k" driver is documented only in Japanese.
"md2k" is reported to work, but suffers from some banding and dithering problems. The driver supports all features but metallic, white, or multicolour cartridges.
To use the ppmtomd PPD under RedHat 9.0, you'll need to download and compile the ppmtomd driver, and install foomatic-rip from source. This requires the netpbm-devel package, and you may want to just copy foomatic-rip into /usr/lib/cups/filters manually. It handles white cartridges just fine, using the "Dont't Care" color-mode general setup option.general opinion
