User Notes

This printer (Avery Personal Label Printer)should be transferred to status 
"paperweight". Apparently Avery has completely changed the specs without 
telling anybody.
5 different Linux professionals were unable to get this printer (bought in
May 2006) to work using the driver, etc. given here.

UPDATE FROM ANOTHER USER - This printer WILL work if you use the CoStar 
Labelwriter XL driver.  (FYI, CoStar is now owned by Dymo.)  Another trick is
that you also must adjust your port settings to 9600, as the default port
settings are too fast.  The driver can be found on this website:

- scroll down on page
- go to "DYMO Label Software Application Version 6.1.1 for 
  Windows 98/ME/2000/XP" and select "Click Here" for "Read Me First Document"
- download driver and install
- go to Control Panel, System, "Hardware" tab, open "Device Manager"
- click on the + beside "Ports" and double-click the port used to connect
  your Avery PLP (my printer connects to COM1)
- go to "Port Settings" tab; change "Bits per Second" to 9600 (drop-down) and
  click "OK"
- close all windows
- print to printer from your application
