Do not confuse this printer with the Brother HL-1435 which is a "Paperweight".

Probably very similar to the Brother HL-1440

Brother provides a driver, too, but binary-only and only for LPD/LPRng. According to the printout quality it is based on the "ljet4" Ghostscript driver. "pxlmono", "gimp-print" (600 dpi), and "hpijs-pcl5e" (600 dpi) give a better grayscale quality and all special features of the printer are accessible by PJL commands.

I am using "Brother HL-1430 Foomatic/hl1250" with CUPS. USB works nice.
Parport, however, is broken. Cups says job has completed, but nothing
has been printed. If you have hints, please post them here: just edit

== Don't let CUPS make your PPD ==

Using the above 'download PPD' link, my HL1430 works fine.

In contrast, when I let CUPS 'make' the PPD, specifying 'Brother'
then 'HL1250' or 'HL1440', the printer does not work. It warms
up, LEDs twinkle, the motor makes some noise - but nothing is printed.

I had to set margins in my PPD file.
With the help of alignmargins and align.ps I found out how to set them with some "try and error".
