| BW laser printer, max. 1200x600 dpi, this is a Paperweight | ![]() |
Do not confuse this printer with the Brother HL-1430
, this printer does not understand PCL as most other Brother laser printers and therefore does not work with free software.
Perhaps it works with the "hl7x0" driver, but there is no user report so far.
Brother publishes proprietary Linux drivers for CUPS and LPD for most of their laser printers and multi-function devices, including SANE drivers for the scanners. They can be downloaded free of charge on their Linux driver page.
Consumables/Refills: Separate Toner and Drum
The driver is found on the Brother US website. Use the HL-1430 driver and all should be good. I have been using this printer fine with Ubuntu Linux since 7.10 without issue. I believe calling it a paperweight is erroneous. Works fine for me using it as an "HL 1430"
