Multi-function device: Printer, Scanner, Copier.
The printing engine is the one of the C62, a user reported that it prints perfectly using a driver for the C62, so when your Gimp-Print version does not list this device explicitly as supported, pretend that you have the C62.
To be able to scan you need either kernel 2.4.21 or newer or you do a small change in the "scanner.o" module of older kernels. See this posting on the linux-usb-devel mailing list and the thread "Epson Stylus cx3200 MFP" on the Epson Forum.
You have to remove the following from the drivers/usb/scanner.c file in the kernel source:
if (dev->config[0].bNumInterfaces != 1) {
info("probe_scanner: Only one device interface is supported.");
return NULL;
}
Then you have to recompile, install, and reload the "scanner.o" kernel module (the commands have to be executed as "root", we assume that the kernel source code is in the /usr/src/linux directory):
cd /usr/src/linux
make modules
cp drivers/usb/scanner.o /lib/modules/<Linux version>/kernel/drivers/usb/
rmmod scanner
modprobe scanner vendor=0x04b8 product=0x0802
After having done so you can configure SANE to use the CX3200 with the "epson" scanner driver, it is compatible to the Epson Perfection 1200U.
Copying should just work with the front panel of the device.
[old] For scanning to work in Fedora (and probably also in Redhat), edit the file /etc/sane.d/epson.conf. Add a # at the beginning of this line: scsi EPSON so that it spells #scsi EPSON And remove the # at the beginning of one of these lines: #usb /dev/usb/scanner0 so that it spells usb /dev/usb/scanner0 After that, the scanner is detected immediately under both Xsane and Kooka. [/old] ..... i am using Fedora Core 2 Test 1. My CX3200 works out of the box (cups printing). but i had a lot of troubles with xsane not finding the scanner. I did a lot of googling, found out that newer kernels (2.6) use libusb. the fun part is that i finally found out how to fix finding the scanner: For scanning to work in Fedora, edit the file /etc/sane.d/epson.conf. Add a # at the beginning of this line: scsi EPSON so that it spells #scsi EPSON And remove the # at the beginning of one of these lines: #usb /dev/usb/scanner0 so that it spells usb /dev/usb/scanner0 After that, the scanner is detected immediately under both Xsane and Kooka. if it still does not work (using libusb), remove all but the usb part, so that is spells usb (roons<AT>chello.nl) Old post on linux-usb-devel mailing-list, referring to pre-2.4.21 kernel scanner module's modification, is now at e.g. http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb-devel&m=103361744305598&w=2 (geocrawler isn't any longer working) (lukenshiro<at>ngi.it) --- For me it works perfectly under open suse 10.1 (scanning too) --- Works under ubuntu 8.10 no problem
