Comments

For basic printing functionality use the Postscript PPD. For advanced functionality such as printer status, maintenance features, scanning and photo card unload use the HPLIP driver (which includes HPIJS).

I don't believe this:

1200x1200 dpi only possible with Windows drivers, 600x600 can be reached w/o particular software. The difference is visible, but only slightly, so the Functionality got "Mostly"

Do the following:

Set the resolution on the front panel to "Prores 1200", not to "Fastres 1200". When you use CUPS with HPs PPD file, turn off "Fastres 1200" in theprinter configuration options.

Try the generic PostScript PPD file which comes with KUPS 1.0 or newer.

Consumables/Refills: toner

Using CUPS and the PS PPD from HP's printer driver site gives excellent results with this printer. This also gives you a lot more configuration options such as duplexing. 1200x1200dpi also seems to function with this PPD
