Drivers

The following driver(s) are known to drive this printer:

Recommended driver:

splix  (driver home page)
  Driver for Samsung SPL2 (ML-1710, ...) and SPLc (CLP-500, ...) laser printers
The splix is a drivers for samsung (and some xerox) printers and works fine on this printer, as far i could tell.
this driver is free software, so should work in all open OS and platforms, and so is recommended. the scanner still needs the samsung driver

Other drivers:

Samsung supplied
They supply a functioning driver (propietary) and software with their install CD.
With Fedora 6 it does not work. I just installs but nothing is printed. No error appears.
With Fedora 4 it did work perfectly. Could be an issue with the new kernel release, or with non-checked dependencies.
Doesn't work on Debian-Etch 64
For Ubuntu 6.10, go here: http://mattgordon.wordpress.com/howto/installing-a-samsung-printer/
For other distributions try this: http://forums.freestandards.org/read.php?31,451
There is a new driver on samsung web page, buy be careful with it. It does not work on Fedora 6 and if you uninstall it it removes required libraries, and your system will stop working. The problem with Fedora 6 is SELinux. If you deactivate it, it will start printing.
on GENTOO try to copy the files from the driver supplied by samsung in /usr/lib/cups to /usr/libexec/cups, eventually do
